Dr Pillinger has worked as General Practitioner in Highcliffe since 1986. During this time he has developed particular clinical interest in the areas of Male Health, Urology - including sexual health, Nutrition, Cardiovascular & Respiratory Medicine. His other related interests include the implementation of clinical guidelines and the development of new models for the delivery of primary care. In 1999 he was awarded an NHS Beacon Practice Award for Primary Care Service Development and is an honorary Clinical Assistant in Urology at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital Trust, holding a weekly clinic at the Medical Centre in Highcliffe. Between 1990 and 2002, he was directly involved in General Practice Training and still holds the post of Medical Student Teacher and Research Supervisor - Department of Primary Care, University of Southampton. |
 Dr Reginald Odbert (m)

I trained in Sheffield and after a few years working in the city's hospitals I joined the Royal Air Force where I enjoyed the benefit of tremendous opportunities to combine my interests in travel, medicine, flying and emergency medicine with the RAF Search and Rescue helicopters. I studied for a while at the RAF Institute of Aviation Medicine in Farnborough, and became fascinated by the ability of the human body to cope with extreme environments. After working in Germany, the UK, Cyprus, Central America and detachments throughout Europe, I was fortunate to join the Practice in Highcliffe in 1990 where I became a partner. This enabled my three sons to attend St Marks School in the village before going on to school in Bournemouth, and then University. My clinical interests are fairly broad and these include general medicine, diabetes, Child health, Eye diseases, trauma and immediate medical care. I set up the Highcliffe eye clinic in 1996 and I was actively involved as a voluntary doctor with BASICS ( British Association for Immediate Care) in the provision of immediate (emergency) care between 1992 - 2008, and I qualified as a Fellow in Immediate Medical Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2002. I spent a year studying Medical Education at the University of Wales College of Medicine and my research dissertation studied the learning experiences of new doctors in General Practice. In July 2005 I emerged from Cardiff with an MSc in postgraduate medical education. I am away from the Practice on Wednesdays because I joined the team at Wessex Deanery's School of General Practice in April 2006. However, I endeavor to share the benefits of my experience at the Deanery with all members of the Practice and all the students and young doctors who come to train at Highcliffe Medical Centre. |
 Dr Stephen Collins (m)
MBChB (1984 Leic.), DRCOG, MRCGP.
I trained at Leicester University Medical School from 1979 to 1984 and subsequently worked in a variety of specialities in England and New Zealand until 1990. Part of that time was spent as a GP-registrar with a well-organised and enthusiastic training practice in Leicester; this re-enforced my early ambition to be a GP.
In 1990 I decided to start looking for a similar practice close to the sea, where I could enjoy sailing in my spare time. After experiencing many different types of practice as a locum GP I was lucky enough to join the team at Highcliffe Medical Centre in 1992. My wife and I decided to settle in Mudeford and now have two growing children. It's a beautiful place and such a fantastic environment for raising a family; we're very lucky.
I enjoy all aspects of General Practice and especially the opportunity to get to know patients over long periods. I think the role of the medical generalist is essential for the delivery of good healthcare and I find the clinical variety associated with it both stimulating and rewarding.
The Medical Centre has grown significantly in size and complexity over the last two decades, with many new services and staff, and this has brought with it increasing organisational and management responsibilities for partners in the practice. One of my areas of focus in this respect has been to get the best out of our electronic records' system, because easy access to good clinical notes helps enormously when dealing with complex medical problems.
I take one day each week away from the practice to pursue a special interest in the Cardiac Department of our local hospital, where I work with others to provide a service for patients with chronic heart failure living in the Bournemouth area. |
 Dr Naveed Sami (m)
Naveed has a broad range of experience, from the development of public health in Iran to care of the elderly, and general and orthopaedic surgery in London. He decided to train as a GP when he realised that his career in surgery meant that he rarely saw his patients awake! In eight years of training and working as a GP, the sparkle and warmth of relationships with patients has demonstrated that his choice was the right one. At the Highcliffe Medical Centre Naveed has had the opportunity to continue his surgical skills, both in carrying out minor surgery within the Practice and, more recently, his appointment by the South East Dorset Primary Care Trust to carry out vasectomies for patients across Christchurch and South East Dorset. |
 Dr Lucy Godwin (f)
MB BS (London 1993) DRCOG DCH MRCGP
I trained at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in London and qualified in 1993. After house jobs and 6 months in A&E I chose to move out of London and joined a GP training scheme in Southampton. I then spent a year in practice in Romsey and I worked as a GP locum around the Southampton area over the next few years.
I joined the practice as a partner in Sept 2001.
My areas of clinical interest are especially women's health, family planning, child health and palliative care. I work 3 days at the practice and work one day per week at Naomi House - the children's hospice near Winchester. My other interests within the practice are GP training, childhood immunisations and this website.
Outside of work I have a great love of the outdoors, spending time in the forest or at the beach - often with my dog. I enjoy running,swimming, cycling and have recently started kayaking. |
 Dr Anne Lloyd-Thomas (f)
Anne Lloyd-Thomas is married to a local consultant psychiatrist and has three children. She trained at Oxford and worked in various hospital specialities before qualifying as a GP in 1992. Since then, she has worked part time in general practice in Oxford and Bournemouth before joining Highcliffe as a partner in Sept 2001. Her interests include the management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes etc. She also enjoys women's and children's medicine, in which she has had plenty of practical experience! She tries to practise a patient-centred approach within the limitations of the NHS today. |
 Dr Zelda Cheng (f)

I trained at University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff, qualifying in 1992. Following this I did further training in Wales for 2 years before moving to the south coast to pursue a career in hospital medicine of the next r years. During this time I had the privilege to work at the local hospice in Portsmouth for 6 months. I then decided to join a GP training scheme in Poole/Bournemouth area. I started working at Highcliffe Medical Centre in 2000. My main areas of interests are the management of long term medical problems and Palliative care. |
