The Patient Participation Group

This is a group of volunteer patients from the Practice who represent the needs of the patient body and our local community.

They express views from the patient perspective and are consulted regarding the planning of services that the surgery provides.

They are involved in helping the Practice communicate any issues and news they feel the patients should be aware of and are responsible for producing the newsletter.

The group has been responsible for getting the start-up funding to establish Be Healthwise, a waitingroom based resource of approved health and support information available to all patients.

Their monthly meetings are regularly attended by a Partner, the Practice Manager or other health professionals.  They are often visible helping out at the Practice stand at Highcliffe Fete and the flu clinics and are always open to feedback from patients.  The Practice needs this feedback in order to provide the best service possible, within our means. 

Highcliffe & Mudeford Medical Centre Patient Participation Group

Mission Statement

To provide two-way communication between staff and patients of the Medical Centre and to support the Practice in continuing to improve the service to patients.

Objectives

• communicate patients' comments and concerns to the Practice
• consider and comment on issues identified by the Practice
• help to communicate Practice issues and information to the patients
• give practical assistance to the Practice as appropriate
• encourage patients to be responsible for their own and their family's health
  
• keep aware of current issues in the NHS

Composition of the PPG

• The Group shall consist of about 10 patients registered with the Practice and reflecting a cross section of the patient body 
• Members of the PPG should have an active involvement in the community in order to facilitate communication but will not formally represent other organisations
• Members of the PPG must be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement
• Members of the PPG must be prepared for their name and phone number to be published in the practice booklet and newsletters and on the practice website
  
• The Group will be responsible for its own affairs - for selecting and inducting new members, running and keeping records of meetings and maintaining links with other bodies

• Meetings will normally take place on 2nd Monday of each month at 7.00pm
• Meetings will normally be held in Highcliffe Medical Centre
• Meetings will alternate between 'Patient only' and those attended by the Practice Manager or a Partner
• At the end of each meeting any confidential items, to be minuted separately, will be identified
